With everyone already so geared up for festival season, there’s even more music news to behold with Laneway Festival announcing the first line of sideshows from its incredible 2013 lineup! The first acts announced are Brooklyn’s Yeasayer, England’s favourite lady-rocker Bat For Lashes, garage-rock trio Divine Fits, supergroup Polica and Cloud Nothings!

Yeasayer 2013 Australian Tour

Celebrating the release of their new album Fragrant World, Brooklyn’s psychedelic experimentalists Yeasayer will return to Australia, announcing headlining performances at Sydney’s Metro Theatre and Melbourne’s Hi Fi, and appearing nationally on Laneway Festival.

Yeasayer’s first sold-out tour with 2010’s crossover hit, ‘Odd Blood ‘would soon warrant an encore, with the band returning quickly to spend summer on 2011’s Laneway Festival – their final dates before beginning work on Fragrant World.

On the record,  keyboards clank and wheeze, tiny claps stumble against busted drum machines, and the band’s love for synthesisers is omnipresent through its elevated melodic sounds.

When fans purchase their concert ticket, they can add on the digital download of Yeasayer’s latest album Fragrant World. The download will be available shortly after transaction is complete. All ticketing details below.

Divine Fits 2013 Australian Tour

Divine Fits are a new rock trio made up of Britt Daniel (Spoon), Dan Boeckner (Wolf Parade/Handsome Furs) and Sam Brown (New Bomb Turks). As you’d expect from a band comprising two of the biggest names in indie circles and the drummer from an underground rock’n’roll powerhouse, Divine Fits marry scuzzy garage grooves with innate hooks and melody and emerge with a product as accessible as it is unique.

If the glowing reports back from the States about the Divine Fits live show are to be believed they’ve got the stage presence to match already, hardly surprising when you consider the calibre and experience of the bands’ members.

Of Monsters And Men 2013 Australian Tour

Following their sell-out tour of Australia in July, Of Monsters and Men are returning to play at the first few Laneway Festival stops in 2013 and a few headline shows for fans on the east coast. The Icelandic six-piece will take the stage at Sydney’s Metro, The Northern in Byron Bay and the Palace Theatre in Melbourne, but they’ll leave Australia before the Laneway tour heads out west for show in Adelaide and Perth.

Of Monsters and Men made their SXSW debut earlier this year delivering a stack of dynamic live shows laced with folk charm and fist-pumping choruses that won them a place as one of the bands to watch in 2012 with rave reviews from Nylon, Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone. Since SXSW the band has graced the festival bills at Sasquatch, Lollapalooza, Reading/Leads, Newport Folk Festival, Pukklepop and Outside Lands amongst others. The band’s debut album My Head Is An Animal was released in April and climbed into the ARIA Top 50 on the back of the sugary sweet harmonies of lead single ‘Little Talks’.

Other Laneway festival sideshows announced today include headline shows for Spoon/Wolf Parade/New Bomb Turks ‘supergroup’ Divine Fits, and Polica.

Polica 2013 Australian Tour

Touring Australia at the same time will be burgeoning Minneapolis quartet Poliça, who may not have as many familiar names in their ranks as Divine Fits, but who have been making equally large ripples in the indie pond of late with their debut album, Give You The Ghost.

Formed from anothersoft rock ‘supergroup’ Gayngs, the gorgeous vocals of frontwoman Channy Leanagh give Poliça their distinctive edge, and in conjunction with their beautiful electronic music it’s already garnered them a slew of high-profile fans such as Jay-Z and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, who recently called them “…the best band I’ve ever heard”. High praise indeed. Their music is intense, artful, dark and personal but never less than enthralling, and they too have been getting mad props for their live show from people in the know.

Jessie Ware 2013 Australian Tour

“Jessie Ware will be the star her songs deserve…Devotion is a record filled with moments that bring you to your knees. 8/10″ – NME

‘If we’re talking pop singers, Ware could be one of the greatest.” – Consequence of Sound

As one of the UK’s break-out stars in 2012, Brixton’s Jessie Ware is poised to do the same in Australia.

After guesting on high profile tracks like SBTRKT’s ‘Right Thing To Do’, the 27-year-old broke away with her seductive, universally acclaimed debut, Devotion. Her electronic, soulful pop is delightfully restrained (see breakout hit 110%) and in equal parts immediate and classy. No wonder she’s a serious contender for this year’s Mercury Prize.

Jessie’s live shows are as mesmerising are her silky-smooth voice and have sold out across Europe and the US. Don’t miss the chance to catch Jessie Ware in an intimate club environment – we’re telling you, it might be the last time.

Cloud Nothings 2013 Australian Tour

From Cleveland Ohio, Cloud Nothings announce their debut Australian tour for February 2013. Led by 22 year old Dylan Baldi, the band will perform their anthemic, visceral rock music at two small club shows in Sydney and Melbourne.

In the time since his lo-fi home recordings trickled onto the Internet in 2009, Baldi has assembled a trio of bandmates whose past experience playing rigid and expected live shows spurred the decision to mix things up. Looking for a new sound, they decamped to Chicago to record their third album Attack On Memory with Steve Albini in his Electrical Audio studio.

Propelled by grinding guitars and screamed lyrics, Cloud Nothings embraced a darker approach and higher fidelity sound. Attack On Memory has the potential to be the next generation’s musical tome; while tracks like the 9 minute epic “Wasted Days” and “No Sentiment” hurtle towards a grunge revival, Baldi is savvy enough to ensure his music anthemic is without being derivative.
