Having wrapped up its leg in Singapore, with a strong Aussie presence led by Gotye, Kimbra, and Tame Impala, and Auckland, the Laneway Festival is set to bring its dream indie lineup to Australia this Friday, kicking off at Brisbane’s RNA Showgrounds on February 1st.

Now, just days out from the event, Laneway Festival organisers report that the Sydney leg of the festival has completely sold out, with festival-goers cleaning out the allocation to get their eyes and ears on the international likes of Bat For Lashes,alt-j (∆), Yeasayer, Cloud Nothings, Divine Fits, Perfume Genius, Poliça, and Jessie Ware. There’s also a strong local presence in the likes of Pond, Twerps, High Highs, The Rubens, Alpine,  Flume, and Chet Faker – just to name a few.

Following the Sydney sell out, festival organisers also note that the Melbourne and Perth legs “are extremely close” behind to exhausting their allocations; urging that “less than 100 tickets remain for each of these cities and they’ll sell in the next 24 hours.” The remaining festival dates for Brisbane and Adelaide are set to follow shortly thereafter.

UPDATE: Following the Sydney sell-out, festival organisers have this afternoon confirmed that both the Perth & Melbourne legs of Laneway Festival are now completely sold out.

The Australian dates follow the Singapore and Auckland Laneway which drew more than a combined 18,000 in attendance, leading to near sell-out performances in both international cities.

Organisers also encourage festival-goers to head down to Laneway early to catch a special opening act, “props especially go to Kings of Convenience, who opened the festival so they could play in almost complete silence. Their first gigs in Oz will be a real treat, so get down to Laneway early.”Following the Sydney sell out, festival organisers also note that the Melbourne and Perth legs “are extremely close” behind.

In an upcoming interview with Tone Deaf, one half of the Norwegian duo Eirik Bøe says opening the festival, “was our idea.”

“We’re kind of picky with which festivals we play,” Bøe admits. “We have a few demands that we always propose and one of them is that we have to play when there’s no one else playing on the other stages.”

“For us the most important ingredient is silence. The most important part of our music is the silence and it is very easy to spoil that,” he explains.

Meanwhile, Anand Wilder of Brooklyn boho-popsters Yeasayer recently revealed that he’s super enthusiastic about the imminent festival. In a recent interview with Tone Deaf, Wilder labelled Laneway a “summer camp: beautiful weather …flying on rock n roll planes with 50 other bands, you’re partying with all your friends that are in bands… the promoters are great. Everything.”

Adding with a flourish “Laneway is just… you can’t get better than that festival.”
