With just over two weeks to go until their hugely anticipated album release, Birds Of Tokyo have just announced the last extra dates for their March Fires Tour. The news coincides with their new single “Lanterns” leaping to #3 on the ARIA charts making it easily the biggest hit of their career.
Due to popular demand, second and final shows have been added at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney on Sunday March 17 and at The Tivoli in Brisbane on Thursday March 21. Tickets for both shows are on sale now.
This tour will coincide with the March 1 release of their fourth studio album, March Fires. The album is the result of a huge reinvention for Birds of Tokyo.
After the multiplatinum success of their last album in 2011, the acclaimed band added new members, moved to different cities, changed their writing process and took a chance with a new producer and mixer on the other side of the world. As a result the new album has a strong thread that runs through it … burning down the old and coming together to build something new.
The first of this new era for Birds Of Tokyo was the Gold selling This Fire EP, which was triple j’s #1 most played and most requested song for several weeks late last year. Lifted from the highly regarded This Fire EP the title track unveiled the new lineup and gave their rabid fanbase a first taste of the fresh sounds they can expect on March Fires.
Hot on the heels of acclaimed summer sets at festivals like “Rock It” and “Homebake”, the band recently dropped an anthem called ‘Lanterns’. The epic song has shot to #3 on the national ARIA Singles Chart and is already officially Platinum three weeks after release.
Kicking off the shows on the March Fires Tour, will be some of the best local bands brewing around the country. With special guests Regular John joining Birds of Tokyo on their national tour (all dates except WA), the following bands will also join the bill in these states:
