After continuing it’s rise on the Australian festival circuit, it has been announced that the organisers behind St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival series are planning to ship the event to North America. It has been announced that Laneway will host the new event in a currently un-announced North American city later this year.

Danny Rogers and Jerome Borazio, Laneway co-promoters with Chugg Entertainment in Australasia, revealed in a press release today that, “bringing Laneway to America is something we knew we had to do and we couldn’t have chosen a more quintessentially American city to have it in. Everyone will be just as excited as we are when they hear about the incredible lineup and unique location.”

The chosen city and festival date for the North American edition of the event is due to be announced as part of the now-annual SXSW Laneway party to take place in Austin this March (next week in fact). The party itself features an impressive lineup of internationally hyped artists that include Palma Violets, CVRCHES, Parquet Courts, No Ceremony/// and Merchandise.

As apart of their SXSW party, Laneway will also be introducing some Aussie talent into the mix with local superstars Alpine, Flume, and Vance Joy to make an appearance.

Laneway organisers are obviously keen on bringing Australian artists to the global scene. Looking at the lineup of the 2013 Singapore event, slightly varied to that of the lineup featured in Australian cities, audiences were treated to global mega start Gotye as well as Kimbra and Tame Impala. All of which are currently making some serious waves abroad.”We’re also really looking forward to getting behind Australasian artists and helping them continue the amazing run of success Aussie acts have had in the States recently.” – Laneway Festival

“We’re also really looking forward to getting behind Australasian artists and helping them continue the amazing run of success Aussie acts have had in the States recently,” say Rogers and Borazio.

“Coming to America is a big moment for Laneway and is the first time an Australian festival has been launched into North America,” they continue. “We are delighted to be working with our partners, who are some of the best operators in the industry and their vision will be integral to the event’s success.”

With the inclusion of Alpine, Flume, and Vance joy on the Laneway SXSW party lineup, once can only speculate about the possibility of an appearance at the North American edition of the festival as well.

Laneway’s increasing popularity, as well as its ability to consistently deliver exciting and innovative lineups that stand up strongly alongside other major festivals, is proving that the event is fast edging towards the forefront of the Australian live music scene. The addition of the North American event and other exciting prospects for the festival can only suggest that the best is yet to come.

What started off as an alleyway street party in Melbourne back in 2004 has experienced a growing expansion into not only a national series but also into international territory with the aforementioned Singapore editions and New Zealand Laneway Festival circuit hosting shows in Auckland.

With an enviable lineup history including the likes of Feist, Mumford & Sons, Florence + the Machine, Tame Impala, The xx, and M83, Laneway continues to provide an exclusive festival experience to Australian audiences. Staging their events in off-the-track metropolitan environments, the festival is refreshingly innovative with its most recent edition featuring acts such as MS MR, Cloud Nothings, Alt-J, and Bat For Lashes.

As our Tone Deaf reviewer noted of the Melbourne leg of the event, with “another winning edition” at the Footscray Community Arts Centre this year; “Laneway Festival once again proves that with a setting and organisation that’s as strong as its well-curated lineup, it’s fast becoming the most enviable date on the summer festival calendar.”
