Along with the news that their twelfth studio album What About Now debuting at the top of the Australian albums chart comes reports that Bon Jovi will be heading to Australia before the end of the year as part of their current world tour.
Helped by their new single, ‘Because We Can’, Bon Jovi beat out the likes of Dave Grohl’s all-star Sound City soundtrack and even David Bowie’s latest, his first new studio album in 10 years, to claim the top spot on the ARIA Albums Chart in the record’s opening week.
The follow-up to 2009’s The Circle, the band’s John Shanks-produced set is also being promoted through an extensive global trot. Bon Jovi’s latest world tour kicked off in the USA last week and sees them travelling across North America through to April, before heading to South Africa in May then extensive dates booked through Europe.
The schedule thins out towards September and October, but titular frontman Jon Bon Jovi has already spoken about the band’s plans to head Down Under in December this year, telling News Ltd earlier in the year, “we are coming (but) not until the end of the year in December.”
“We are coming (but) not until the end of the year in December.” – Jon Bon JoviChannel 7 News now reports the band has plans to hit Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Adelaide for stadium shows in December, the first time they’ve headed to Australian soil in two years, since December 2010 as part of their world tour for The Circle, which staged shows in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.
Assuming the tentative dates are accurate, it looks like Perth fans will once again be missing out on another international headline tour after missing out on legs from Bruce Springsteen and art-metal titans Tool, with Frontier Touring even amicably apologising to irate punters in Western Australia.
Muse, another band who’ve revealed plans to tour Australia in December, won’t be making the same potential mistake as Bon Jovi, with frontman Matt Bellamy recently telling a fan that the UK sci-fi prog power trio are planning to kick-off their Australian tour in the WA Capital.
It’s probably a bit early to call it, but considering Bon Jovi’s current status as ARIA chart toppers a December tour could certainly do some moving and shaking among ticketbuyers to justify a Perth leg. Fans will just have to wait and see when official tour dates are announced.
