Villagers are heading back to our shores for an Australian tour. Already announced on this years sold-out Splendour In The Grass lineup, Dublin troubadour Conor O’Brien (aka Villagers) will be bringing his full band to our shores for the first time, having previously only toured as a 2 piece.

Villages have just released their highly anticipated second album {Awayland}, the follow-up to 2010’s Mercury Award nominated debut, Becoming A Jackal. The debut was performed almost entirely by O’Brien but the new album {Awayland}, recorded in Donegal, Ireland is an entirely different beast. With the Ivor Novello award winning Irishman inviting his fellow touring partners to perform his songs as a group, they’ve expanded on their folk sound and explored whole new territory.

Without the burden of playing every instrument, O’Brien concentrated his efforts into his lyrics. There are influences by luminaries such as Slaugherhouse 5 author Kurt Vonnegut alongside songwriters Nick Drake and Curtis Mayfield.

Supporting Villagers on all dates will be Melbourne’s charming avant gardener, Courtney Barnett.
