Following their own fall out with Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah over whether they were worthy to headline the 2014 edition of the music festival, Fall Out Boy have gone ahead and organised their own headline return to Australia, heading back Down Under before the year is out.

The emo-pop four-piece will be back in the country to play all-ages arena shows this October, supported by British India, heading back to Australia for the second time this year.

Fall Out Boy – frontman Patrick Stump, songwriting bassist Pete Wentz, and the rhythm section of  Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley – were last in Australia for a whirlwind two-date stopover following the reveal of their comeback album Save Rock And Rollplaying in Sydney and Melbourne in March earlier this year.

“Don’t get me wrong – I would absolutely love to play arena shows once again, but for now, it just seemed right to play the smaller shows,” said Patrick Stump in an interview with Tone Deaf about the two-date tour, but this October sees them playing much larger venues to accommodate for fans that missed out on those theatre-sized shows

The news of Fall Out Boy’s headline Australian return follows the reveal that though they were heavily rumoured to headline Soundwave 2014 – whose lineup is “pretty much full” – the rumours were quashed by promoter AJ Maddah himself; saying that “they thought they should be one of the top 3 headliners. We disagreed.”

According to the outspoken promoter, the band were “not big/good enough to headline,” and when told as much about it, “they fucked off in a huff.” The band have not responded at all to the Soundwave claims, but fans will be excited at thew news that while they may not be headlining a festival early next year, it means they’ll be in the country a lot sooner.

Joining the American pop-rockers will be Melbourne’s own British India, as special guests for the entire October Tour. The four-piece are currently playing their own nationwide tour in support of their fourth studio album Controller, released earlier this year and score them their third consecutive debut in the Top 10 of the ARIA Album Charts.

Fall Out Boy’s October Tour will be presented by Frontier Touring and the members pre-sale will open 12 noon Wednesday 7 August at www.frontiertouring.com/falloutboy with general public tickets on sale 10am Friday 9 August.
