The Big Day Out 2014 Lineup drops tonight, with the official announcement of the list of bands and headliners playing the one-day touring festival set to land at 8pm, but one band has jumped the gun, leaking their part in the Big Day Out 2014 lineup just a couple hours too early.

Just as the advertising materials for the Big Day Out went up a little sooner than expected, revealing the touring festivals official dates a few days ahead of schedule as well as that the Sydney leg would be once again expanding to two days, now the Big Day Out’s lineup announcement plans have experienced a leak.

Whether due to the time difference for the Portaland, Oregon rockers or an internal slip-up, Portugal. The Man have taken to their Facebook and confirmed their place on the Big Day Out bill, writing: “seems like forever away but we are excited about going back to Australia for Big Day Out summer 2014.” Along with a promo shot of the band plastered with Big Day Out artwork.

The band must be major fans of Australia as they have played as part of the Splendour In The Grass lineup over the weekend, only a year on from their last visit in 2012 as part of the St Jerome’s Laneway Festival lineup.

It’s no surprise, as bassist Zach Carothers recently told Tone Deaf in an interview ahead of their Splendour showing that they “cannot wait to get back.”

“We hardly got any time at all to hang out last time which was terrible because we love, love Australia,” said Carothers. “We didn’t get to go out of the city like we wanted to… It’s such a beautiful place. Beautiful people, too. Everyone is so good looking in Australia, it makes us feel terrible.”

Australian fans were also among the first to experience the quintet’s eight and latest album, Evil Friendsin the live setting. Which our Tone Deaf reviewer claimed was the band’s best yet and “should propel them to the indie rock glory they deserve.”

Though Portugal. The Man may have let slip a little too soon, it’s merely a matter of hours before the full Big Day Out 2014 lineup is with us, which promoters have been hyping as the “biggest and best ever.

Big Day Out CEO Adam Zammit previously stated that “2 of our headliners have never played an Australian festival,” in defence of the $20 price hike to the ticket cost, while fellow Big Day Out promoter Ken West added of the festival bill-toppers, “I was hoping for one ‘White Whale’, managed to get two and ended up with three.”

Between the pair’s clues, speculation has run rife over the 2014 lineup, which even won the dogged respect of rival festival promoter AJ Maddah who called it “SUPERB… BDO line-up is truly EPIC.” As for just how epic, we’ll have to wait only a few hours more to see if the rumours, predictions, and guesses prove correct.
