The pre-sale tickets for Soundwave 2014 went on sale this morning, with fans grabbing tickets to see Green Day, Avenged Sevenfold, Alice In Chains, Megadeth and the more than 50 bands on the Soundwave 2014 lineup ahead of the general public sale on 9th September.

As promoter AJ Maddah has already confirmed, last week’s announcement was the first of two major lineup announcements, featuring two of three of the annual music festival’s headliners, and despite missing out on roping in the revitalised Nine Inch Nails for the bill (and kicking up a bit of a stink about it in the process), Maddah may have scored another band in their stead. Though it’s unlikely fans of the two bands are going to overlap.

The star of reality TV show, The Voice, may well wind up on the Soundwave 2014 lineup with news that Joel Madden and his cohorts in Good Charlotte are “hustling” to get onto the bill for Maddah’s festival, as FasterLouder points out.

The news came via the Soundwave promoter who overnight tweeted that Madden’s commitments to filming the popular television singing competition had prevented Good Charlotte from appearing on the initial Soundwave 2014 lineup announcement. Filming for The Voice takes place in mid-February, just when Soundwave 2014 is kicking off at Brisbane’s RNA Showgrounds on 22nd February.

Maddah noted that Joel Madden’s coaching commitments clashed with the festival dates “by 2 fucking days,” adding that the pop punk singer was “hustling to change dates now.” Which, given Maddah’s fast and loose way with social media could have been interpreted as a wind-up, especially given the public war of words that broke out between Good Charlotte and Maddah earlier this year.

But when asked by a fan as to the possibility of Good Charlotte playing Soundwave 2014, the Soundwave honcho replied:

Following angry exchanges directly with Good Charlotte’s Benji Madden, the two apparently made up when Benji tweeted: “He’s been upset for 10 years and I’m glad we talked about it and squashed it b/c I respect him and Soundwave;” presumably in reference to Good Chartlotte headlining the first ever Soundwave festival in 2004 (back when it was hosted in Perth as Gravity Soundwave).

So assuming Joel Madden can convince the producers of The Voice to accommodate his band, and assuming Maddah has made good on his truce, and assuming that this isn’t all a hoax (that’s a quite a few ifs), you can expect to see Good Charlotte on the second Soundwave 2014 lineup announcement.

The second lineup reveal is due to land in October and “will have 20 bands if i can manage not to book any more!” explains Maddah, including the third secret headliner that will join billtoppers Green Day and Avenged Sevenfold.
