The Johnny Marr Australian Tour 2013 has been announced.

Following on from the legendary co-songwriter and guitarist for The Smiths being added to the second round of acts of this year’s Falls Festival, playing all three legs in Lorne, Marion Bay, and the newly added Byron Bay, Johnny Marr has now confirmed that he’s playing two additional sideshows.

The official tour page reveals that Marr and his band will be performing sideshows at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel and Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory in early January 2014 following the Falls Festival dates.

A British music cornerstone, Johnny Marr is best known as the former guitarist of The Smiths, influencing countless bands as one of the founding members of a band who in their short five years and four studio albums were one of the defining acts of the 80s before splitting in 1987.

Since his departure from The Smiths however, Marr has never once rested on his laurels, instead carving a unique path throughout his career. He moved on to work with groups such as Electronic, The The, and The Pretenders and has also lent his keen songwriting nous and guitar skills as a part-time member of Modest Mouse and The Cribs.

Johnny Marr arrives in Australia off the back of his debut solo album The Messengerwhich our Tone Deaf reviewer called “a slice of long awaited musical heaven.”

Adding that: “Marr’s greatest strength has always been his ability to conjure emotions – usually melancholy and yearning – through his subtle yet dextrous guitar playing and unsurprisingly, this is the record’s main calling card.”
