The Harvest 2013 headline tours that will replace the cancelled music festival are being announced today.

Following on from Soundwave/Big Day Out/Warped promoter AJ Maddah officially cancelling Harvest ahead of what was to be its third annual edition, the promoter announced plans to bring a number of the Harvest 2013 lineup over for replacement headline tours.

The promoter has already discussed negotiations with the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Eels, Conor Oberst’s DesparecidosM Ward, and (much to the relief of long-term fans) the reformed Neutral Milk Hotel, for Australian visits.

Ticket holders to the cancelled festival will also be offered priority access in the first chance to many of the replacement tours, with organisers noting they will receive an email “from Oztix detailing how to purchase them before the general public onsale. If you have not received your email by Monday 30th September 5:00pm, please contact [email protected].”

Tone Deaf will update this post and keep you updated with all the Harvest 2013 replacement tours as they are announced, just don’t expect anything from Massive Attack and Goldfrapp, as well as The Wallflowers, who are already ruled out for Australian visits off the back of Harvest.

Franz Ferdinand

The Scottish indie rock four-piece were one of Harvest 2013’s bill-toppers, alongside Brtish electronic heavyweights Massive Attack and the sophisti-noir likes of Goldfrapp.

Australian festival favourites, Franz will arrive Down Under this November for a three-date east coast tour off the back of their fourth and latest studio album, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, released back in August.

Their first album in four years, the follow-up to 2009’s Tonight! has already been given a live work-out on a number of international festival dates from the Glaswegians.

The album was recorded over the last year at Alex Kapranos’ Scottish studio, Nick McCarthy’s Sausage Studios in London, Club Ralph and a couple of trips to Stockholm and Oslo, and cements their status as a unique and adventurous British band. It’s an ecstatic rejection of the drab convention’s often accompanying that level of attention and expectation.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

Considering they were the first band to officially confirm an Australian visit was imminent despite the festival’s demise, it’s fitting that Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are the first of the bands from the cancelled Harvest 2013 festival lineup to be confirmed for a replacement tour.

Prior to the official Harvest cancellation announcement (and in many ways pre-empting it), leather-clad rockers Black Rebel Motorcycle Club reassured fans that they would still be touring Australia in the near future. “BRMC is still coming to Australia,” read a statement from the band. “Details for the Australian tour will be announced shortly. We will see you soon.”

Now, true to their word, there they are – with the band hitting the country this November with an opening date in Perth before hitting the east coast for three headline shows.

BRMC were last in Australia in 2010 for Splendour In The Grass off the back of their Beat The Devil’s Tattoo album. Their follow-up, this year’s Specter At The Feast, was inspired by the death of bassist/vocalist Robert Levon Been’s father, Michael, who acted as a sound engineer for the group but died of a heart attack backstage following their performance at the 2010 Pukkelpop festival.

The lead single and opening track of BRMC’s new album is a cover of ‘Let The Day Begin’, the 1989 single from The Call, the rock band that Been’s father fronted. While paying tribute to his legacy, the band haven’t let that turn their brand of rock into an elegiac downturn.

“The more time we’ve spent together as a band, living, working, laughing, touring, and killing each other, that’s what makes a band less of a ship in a bottle, and more of a battleship on the war path,” said Been in a recent interview with Tone Deaf. “Comfort is for grannies and grandpas. Rock ‘n’ roll is a restless motherfucker.”
