A brand new Australian music festival is being added to the calendar in January next year.

Queensland punters will be the recipients of a new event launching in Surfers Paradise, with some big name international acts already locked in to perform at the weekend-long event hosted on the Gold Coast titled Beachlife.

Dubstep overlord Skrillex, one of the highest paid DJs in the world, is locked in to deliver a headline set for the festival’s kick-off on Saturday 4th January, 2014, while the following Sunday night will see American rappers A$AP Rocky and Wiz Khalifa topping the bill – already Australia-bound for a co-headline performance in Melbourne and for Perth’s Origin NYE Festival.

Beachlife 2014 promises to transform the iconic tourist shoreline into a music party, “with a spectacular spaceship stage and state of the art lighting,” along with “a list of support acts handpicked by the headliners.”

The inaugural Beachlife 2014 is expected to draw 10,000 punters a day and is being co-presented by Cross Promotions and Fuzzy Events – the team behind festivals Listen Out, Parklife, Field Day, Harbourlife, and Shore Thing – in conjunction with Surfers Paradise Alliance.

Beachlife promoter Billy Cross tells GoldCoast.com.au that Surfers Paradise is the perfect locale to host a new music festival.

“Partying on the beach is one of the best experiences a person can have,” says Cross, whose company has presented the annual 600 Sounds – V8 Supercars festival, the 2009 Brisbane leg of ATP, and the Backstreet Boys 2010 Australian Tour.

“So many sites on the Gold Coast, like Metricon Stadium, have limited capacity,” says Cross. “Having it on the beach creates a new venue that lets us sell tickets cheaper and create a great atmosphere for people. I think a lot of festivals will follow in our footsteps after this.”

The festival is hoping to fill a void left by the now defunct Summafieldayze festival – the Queensland leg that combined Summadayze and Field Day on the Gold Coast – which is very likely deceased in light of companies tied to Future Entertainment going into liquidation.

“With Summafieldayze closing down the city needed a new festival,” says Cross. “I think [Beachlife] is going to sell out because nothing like this has ever been done before on the Gold Coast. I think it has the potential to become one of the city’s most iconic festivals.”

He reasons that an inaugural sell-out will happen thanks to the patronage of Beachlife attendees travelling from interstate to catch the Skrillex-headlined event. “The majority of people will actually be from places outside of Queensland. They will stay in hotels and eat at restaurants and give local traders a huge boost,” says Cross.

The rest of the Beachlife 2014 lineup is expected to be announced in the near future, but earlybird tickets – starting from $89 (+b/f) – are already on sale for the two-day event, with discounts available for festival-goers who purchase passes for both days simultaneously.
