The Mac DeMarco Australian Tour 2013 has added dates following the Melbourne show selling out, following the announcement that the guitarist and his band are headed to Australia for Meredith Music Festival this December.
With the opening series of headline sideshows at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel now sold out, two extra shows have been added to the tour itinerary, with Mac DeMarco and his ensemble performing at Melbourne’s Shadow Electric Band Room on Monday 16th December and a second Sydney show at GoodGod Small Club the following night on Tuesday 17th December. A slack-rocker with complete charm, Mac DeMarco is making his Australian debut this December off the back of his excellent album 2 getting a local release through Spunk Records.
Offering wildly unhinged live performances, a not-so-subtle disparate range of press shots, and a barrage of bizarrely funny promo videos. The glam facade is purely that, an image that was manufactured for fun to confuse the stiff and compartmentalising world of indie music journalists. Mac DeMarco produces a ‘60s garage rock feel, layered with a seductive baritone voice, which evokes ‘80s new romanticism as much a it does a ‘50s rockabilly croon.
The ex-Makeout Videotape frontman’s first release Rock n Roll Night Club contained a contradiction of music styles. The sincere and warm Mac who sang “Only You” was the same lipstick-wearing sleazoid that crooned “Baby’s Wearing Blue Jeans” and that suited him and his listeners just fine.
Since then, he has dropped his first, proper full-length to critical acclaim, 2 is a concerted effort of cohesive work which showcases Mac’s natural ability as a songwriter, singer, and producer.
After blowing minds across America and Europe, Mac DeMarco and co (ha!) are finally headed to Australia and will also light up the stage at Meredith’s Supernatural Amphitheatre.
