The Magic Band & Grandmothers Of Invention Bluesfest 2014 Sideshows
Coming together for a huge double bill of virtuoso musicians, Captain Beefheart’s legendary troupe The Magic Band, and The Grandmothers of Invention – featuring original members of Frank Zappa’s band The Mothers Of Invention – will deliver a memorable night of music and genius. The Magic Band lineup headed to Australia features three longtime members, Mark ‘Rockette Morton’ Boston, John ‘Drumbo’ French and Denny ‘Feelers Rebo’ Walley. The world lost The Captain in 2010 but The Magic Band continues his musical legacy, hitting the road and playing classics from albums such as Trout Mask Replica, Clear Spot, Safe As Milk, and more; combining elements of free jazz, blues and rock.
Zappa may have left this mortal coil over 20 years ago, but his legacy lives on in the Grandmothers of Invention, consistently performing the music of The Maestro since 2003. Featuring members from two different Zappa eras – keyboard wizard Don Preston and vocalist/saxophonist/woodwinds Bunk Gardner – the Grandmothers of Invention perform favourites from the Zappa canon, including “One Size Fits All”, “Bongo Fury”, “Overnite Sensation”, “Uncle Meat”, “Roxy & Elsewhere” and “We’re Only In It for the Money”.
