A Yo La Tengo Australian Tour 2014 has been announced, with the indie veterans returning to Australia for a series of headline shows next year.

Having just performed in Australia, with an epic three hour set at the Melbourne Festival receiving rave reviews, including our Tone Deaf scribe on hand at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall, the Hoboken born trio of Ira Kaplan, Georgia Hubley, and James McNew return Down Under for an encore performance of their two set opus, An Evening With Yo La Tengo, next March.

Performed around the world and most recently at the aforementioned Melbourne Festival, An Evening With Yo La Tengo highlights the New Jersey-based trio’s huge musical range as explored across their 13 + studio albums, including their latest release Fade, and via a variety of nerdish fan-boy/girl cover versions.

The tour will take in a debut performance at the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House plus intimate club shows in Brisbane and Melbourne, and a one-shot one-set take at Meredith’s Golden Plains Festival – Yo La Tengo’s second appearance at that event.

In a recent Tone Deaf interview, bassist and vocalist James McNew discussed the band’s 30+ history, their recent album Fade, and how “It’s been a real fucking struggle for us not to sell out.”

“It’s hard. But we just won’t ever licence our music for advertising,” says the bassist. “Don’t get us wrong, we’re very interested in the idea of composing for advertising or TV and we’ve done that in the past. But as far as giving away songs we’ve already written and recorded… the songs on our albums, we just wont give those away to advertisers.”

With such integrity, and a musical legacy to match, Yo La Tengo continue to charm and gather fans across the world with their peerless ethic.

Don’t miss An Evening With Yo La Tengo as it returns to Australia in March 2014
