All tickets for NYE On The Hill, a New Year’s expansion from the organisers of the boutique invite-only The Hills Are Alive, have completely sold out.
It’s a major win for the Aussie music festival given that this New Year’s Eve edition marks the inauguration of the event. But perhaps no surprise given the quality of the impressive lineup of local talent, including Loon Lake, Wagons, Money For Rope, The Love Junkies, and Hayden Calnin among a list of nearly 25 bands, plus extra-musical features like comedy, a petting zoo, food and games.
Though NYE On The Hill is now officially sold out, all hope is not lost for those still looking to score a pass to the festival, with the event’s mysterious benevolent benefactor, known only as ‘The Farmer’ (no relation to Aunty Meredith) offering a chance to patrons that can come up with the tallest of tales.
“If you have an amazingly creative, humorous and semi-justifiable excuse for not yet having purchased your ticket you may still be in with a chance to attend,” reveals The Farmer.
A “very small handful of specially allocated tickets” for NYE On The Hill are available for purchase to those that can come up with the best reason for failing to secure their tickets yet.
“It’s simple, you have one chance to build your case and present it to the Farmer to be in the running to purchase one of the last five tickets to spend your New Years’ on The Hill. Remember, don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story…”
Would-be storytellers have until Friday the 30th November to “submit their case” to the NYE On The Hill patriarch at [email protected]

The best excuses/entries will then be posted up on the NYE on the Hill Facebook event page and the winners announce the following Monday 2nd December, ahead of the event’s kick-off at a mysterious ‘secluded location’ at the same site as The Hills Are Alive, on an “incredibly picturesque site… 10mins from Loch Village, 20mins from Wonthaggi, 95mins from Melbourne,” from 30th December to the 1st January.
Ticket-holders and five creative fibbers alike will enjoy a who’s who of rising Aussie talent on the inaugural NYE On The Hill lineup, including Lurch And Chief, Grizzly Jim Lawrie, Animaux, Playwrite, Olympia, The Pierce Brothers, Quarry Mountain Dead Rats, The Evening Cast, and more.
There’s also the aforementioned ‘special features’ to partake in; Barn Yard Buddies brings a kid’s animal farm (“And… before you ask… yes, adults are allowed in too,” confirms The Farmer), while the BYO festival’s Food Fair will provide a bevy of culinary delights, including Dos Diablos’ mexican cantina and Round The Way’s patented Bagel Burgers.
Comedy comes to NYE On The Hill with Al’s Music Rant: Fear Of A Blog Planet, arriving following a sold-out critically acclaimed run at this year’s Melbourne Fringe Festival direct to NYE’s “perFARMance THAAtre.” The Farmers Field Of Fun offers old skool lawn games, the Dr. Pong Shed has table tennis for all, and The Sunset Spot provides the perfect setting to take in the fresh country air.
