The Hills Are Alive 2014 lineup has been announced as the first round of artists for the invite-only boutique music festival are revealed.

With everything locked in for the inaugural launch of spin-off sister festival, NYE On The Hill, festival organisers turn their attention to their flagship event, The Hills Are Alive, taking place in 2014 on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th March.

One of Australia’s best kept music festival secrets, The Hills Are Alive is a two-day boutique camping and music gathering set in the beautifully picturesque rolling hills of South Gippsland (90mins drive from Melbourne).

Among this beautiful setting, patrons are treated to great live music, food, drinks, games, and more ‘special features’, but only if they gain an invite to attend from a friend who has attended previously or by one of the bands on the bill as part of The Hills Are Alive’s ‘friends-of-friends’ policy.

“This event is not officially open to the public and It is this friends-of-friends policy that makes the vibe so special,” says the event’s enigmatic patriarch, The Farmer; “anyone at any time over the weekend should be able to turn to the person next to them, work out how they’re connected, share a drink and some food and then party like old friends.”

That party includes a lineup that features the best emerging talent Australia has to offer, and The Hills Are Alive 2014 lineup continues that tradition with an impressive mix of cutting edge bands and rising stars.

Leading the pack is Newtown’s mega-hectic psychedelic/roots/pop outfit Sticky Fingers, sophisticated electro-twosome Willow Beats, the much-hyped Melbourne producer Fractures, Hip Hop Princess on-the-rise Tkay Maidza and hauntingly fragile Perth folk singer James Teague.

Also on the Hills Are Alive 2014 lineup is blogosphere-storming five-piece Jakubi, widescreen pop purveyors All The Colours, the mighty seven-strong punk-string lineup of Little Bastard, psychedelic folk/country favourites Immigrant Union, ragged soul garage group The Harlots, as well as The Harlots, Milwaukee Banks, Echo Drama, Manchoir, Them Dreamers, and Passerine, with more to be announced soon.

Capped at a capacity of 1,200 “friends-of-friends”, tickets for The Hills Are Alive 2014 will be available to those with access to The Farmer’s ‘Secret Password’. With the secret code already doing the rounds to members from Sunday 8th December, a quarter of passes have already been sold with the rest to disappear just as quickly.

The Hills Are Alive news follows the festival launching its very own music video series, ‘Live From The Farm’, and selling out tickets to the inaugural launch of sister event, NYE On The Hill, taking place on the same site as The Hills Are Alive this New Year’s.
