The RÜFÜS Australian Tour 2014 has expanded following huge demand from fans smashing the online box office for tickets.
Announced last month, the World Within Worlds tour will see the indie dance trio travelling to venues all across Australia and fans have already shown their excitement for the imminent trek.
RÜFÜS have sold out their Brisbane, Melbourne, Geelong and Sydney shows, leading to extra shows and dates being announced at The Tivoli (Bris) on Sunday May 11, The Palace (Melb) on Wednesday May 14, The Wool Exchange (Geelong) all ages matinee show on Friday May 16 and Enmore Theatre (Syd) on Sunday June 22.
The extensive tour is set to kick off at the Coolangatta Hotel on May 9 and will do a full lap of the map, finishing up with two homecoming shows at The Enmore Theatre in Sydney on June 21 and 22.
“It’s pretty amazing the response from people for these shows,” says RÜFÜS drummer James Hunt. “And we’re really excited about the supports we’ve got for these gigs. Hayden James, Movement, Kilter, Crooked Colours… all really good people doing great things musically. It’s a good time to be making music in Australia.” “It’s pretty amazing the response from people for these shows.”
Especially if you’re a member of RÜFÜS, who last year released the #1, gold selling debut record, Atlas (which tied with The Drones as the second best Aussie Album of 2013 according to Tone Deaf readers), and are now working on new material for a follow-up.
This year has been good to the group. They blew crowds away at this years Falls and Big Day Out festivals, scored three songs in the Hottest 100 (while partying with Flume backstage) and are about to spend March and April touring Europe and the US – the latter American audiences will know them as RÜFÜS DU SOL after a trademark dispute forced a name change upon the Aussie trio.
They’re also performing at SXSW 2014 for their US Tour, as one of a record-breaking 55 Aussie acts hitting the Austin, Texas music industry conference this year.
The electronic-loving trio also checked in with Tone Deaf recently to tell us about the albums that changed their lives, from European mavericks to a bald vegan.
Looking ahead, the World Within Worlds tour is set to be the band’s last Aussie shows before they relocate to the other side of the atlas to tour and start work on their follow up record in Berlin. As keys player John George explains:“We’re writing new music individually every day. But we haven’t started working on a second album yet, we want to go somewhere different to facilitate a different writing experience and Berlin is different enough!”
Continuing to sell out shows in lightning time, the remaining tickets are not expected to last long.
