Almost two months on from a retirement Tweet that sent fans into a frenzy, Nicki Minaj has clarified what the future holds for her and her music career.

Early in September, music fans around the world were undoubtedly shocked to hear the sudden announcement from Nicki Mina that she was done with music.

At just age 36, the chart-topping music icon took to Twitter to announce; “I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me.”

Although the Tweet has since been deleted, reactions came thick and fast, with fans wondering if this meant we would no longer hear any music from Nicki Minaj in the future.

In a new interview on The Shade Room (via Billboard), Minaj implied that while her retirement from the music game might still be up in the air, she’s promised that she’s not quite done just yet.

“When I posted that retirement tweet, I knew that I still had music that I already had recorded that was still going to come out,” she explained. “So the retirement was kind of talking about my album, meaning like, ‘Do I want to go back and record my fifth album?'”

Noting that there’s still a few tracks that feature her vocals still be released, she confirmed that the Tweet was “really about the fifth album.”

“”Where do I stand with it now? I didn’t know my fans were going to act like that with the tweet,” she explained. “It hurt my feelings because I feel like the way I did it was maybe insensitive to my fans.

“But I didn’t think people were going to take it — I didn’t know it was going to be that big of a deal, so that’s why I deleted it.”

Adding that if she was to release a follow-up to 2018’s Queen, she would likely work with artists such as DaBaby and Gunna, it remains to be seen whether or not Nicki Minaj will indeed release a new album, or what the future holds exactly.

Regardless, you can be sure that diehard fans will be lapping up whatever material she decided to bless us with in the future.
