In a 2014 interview with Complex, Minaj revealed her fear of becoming so consumed by her work that she would “forget to live my personal life to the fullest”.

“If I’m done with my fifth album and I don’t have a child by then, no matter how much money I have, I would be disappointed, as a woman, because I feel like I was put here to be a mother,” she shared.

The rapper has been vocal about her relationship with boyfriend Kenneth Petty recently. In an interview with Queen Radio Show last month, she revealed her desire to marry Petty. “I think I have what I was striving for, just happiness.

“It was so hard to get to a happy place. Now that I’m there, I don’t want to compromise that for anyone or anything.”

Minaj and Petty’s relationship has been shrouded with controversy since it first came to light late last year.  In 1995, Petty was convicted of first-degree attempted rape of a 16-year-old. According to public records, Petty, who was also 16 at the time, served four years in prison for the crime. He was also convicted with first-degree manslaughter and was released from prison in 2013 after serving a 7-year sentence for shooting a man.

Last week, Minaj shared a series of tweets offering fans advice on how to deal with toxic relationships. “I first had to learn how to love MYSELF,” she shared. “If you wouldn’t let a man treat your mother, your sister or best friend like that b/c you LOVE them, then you wouldn’t let a man treat YOU like that b/c you love YOU.”

Nicki Minaj released her last record, Queen, in 2018.
