15 years on from sharing a controversial opinion about US rapper Eminem, Noel Gallagher has stuck by his guns, labelling the hip-hop legend “boring” for writing about his experiences with drugs.

Back in 2005, Noel Gallagher took part in an interview with The Observer which saw him discuss a wide range of topics with comedian David Walliams. Throughout the course of the interview, Gallagher opened up about his opinion of hip-hop, specifically naming Eminem and 50 Cent as two of the artists he likes the least.

“I fucking despise hip hop. Loathe it,” Gallagher explained. “Eminem is a fucking idiot and I find 50 Cent the most distasteful character I have ever crossed in my life.

“It’s so negative. Eminem’s new song about his kid – isn’t it the most ridiculous piece of music you have ever heard in your life? I just don’t like the dragging women around on dog leads and all that stuff. I’m not fucking having that.”

As it turns out though, age hasn’t softened the elder Gallagher brother, with Noel explaining to Ireland’s Sunday Independent how he still feels the same way about the famed hip-hop star.

“He is one of those guys that goes into rehab and then they sing about it for the next 20 years,” Noel Gallagher began. “‘You did a bit of fucking coke. You had a drink. Haven’t we all’.

“I have never felt the need to be one of those fucking people. It’s boring. But writing songs about drugs is as boring as writing songs about coming out the other side of drugs.”

Despite having once claimed that “if there were gold medals for taking drugs for England I would have won a shitload,” Gallagher used the same interview to explain that he now finds the idea of drug use “boring”, adding that his own decision to quit drugs didn’t require rehab at all.

“I can sit in a room full of people doing fucking mountains of cocaine – it doesn’t bother me in the slightest,” he explained.

“I could sit with people smoking and all that. You just know that when the coke comes out the night is going to take a shit turn.

“It’s always like fun and games and once someone gets the coke out then all of a sudden it’s ‘Well, it’s time for me to go anyway, because this is now boring’.”
