Frontman for hip hop collective OFWGKTA (Odd Future) Tyler, The Creator has reportedly paid a venue he trashed two months ago over $8,000 to covers damages to the venue after he flipped out on stage at the sound guy and destroyed the mixing desk.
The incident occurred at a Christmas show held by OFWGKTA at the famous Roxy Theatre on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. Tyler threw a classic rockstar fit when the sound crew shut off his microphone after going past curfew.
The controversial frontman then lashed out at the sound guy and destroyed the venue’s mixing board and sound equipment. Furious with his behaviour the venue promptly called the cops who arrived and arrested Tyler on suspicion of vandalism.
Since then he’s been out on a $20,000 bail and has travelled down under as part of the 2012 Big Day Out circuit. But controversy is never far and s campaign in New Zealand against the group by a gay rights activist saw them removed from the Big Day Out lineup in Auckland.
Tyler continues to claim he is unrepentant on social media and that the venue were actually in the wrong, saying he was just trying to help out two girls who got hurt in the mosh pit.
His expensive apology to the venue came about after the District Attorney sought a meeting with the rapper recommending he also pay for the investigation costs incurred by the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Department.
The District Attorney is to be willing to not file charges against Tyler if he complies with the request.
