One Of Melbourne's Favourite Venues Is Throwing A Week-Long Birthday Party

Beloved Melbourne music and grub haunt The Catfish, best known as the place to get a Philly cheese steak in Melbourne, is turning two and the friendly team has decided to celebrate with a weekend-long birthday party set to conclude at the end of this week.

There’ll be free live music all week from a selection of awesome local bands, including Better Than The Wizards, Holy Moses Heartache, The Horns of Leroy, and a DJ set from Richie 1250, all of whom you can enjoy with a delicious Philly cheese.

“The past two years have been spectacular,” band booker Sam Arthur told us. “It’s tough out there as a live music venue but we’re finding more people are coming down and are enjoying a gig at the ‘fish. We’re a small venue, but we pack a punch.”

Caring about creating a healthy environment to support more local talent, one of the Catty’s latest endeavours was refurbishing the upstairs bandroom and as a result Sam explains “we’ve had bigger, better gigs with a wide range of local and interstate bands.”

[include_post id=”447768″]Thanks to the reinvigorated bandroom the crew have “received a lot of feedback from bands saying they feel really welcome and looked after when they play at the fish, and that’s a big part of our ethics as a live music venue” Sam explained.

So what can The Catfish’s faithful punters expect from the birthday celebrations? A whole lot of music, a whole lot of beer, a whole lot of good food, and even a very unique poker themed pub crawl.

“On Saturday we’re launching our annual collaboration brew, lots of tasty new beers to try and a poker game pub crawl where you go to five local venues, buy a beer, get a poker card and after five venues/cards we award the player with the best hand with some sweet prizes!”

So after the celebrations are over, what on for the next 12 months? “We’re booking lots of bigger free gigs and trying out new brews and Sparrow’s will be inventing more deep fried delights.” Check below or head on over to the official Catfish website for more details.
