Jack Osbourne has given an update on the upcoming Ozzy Osbourne biopic, insisting the film won’t be an “artsy, esoteric” arthouse take on his late father’s life.
Speaking to E! News this week, via Rolling Stone. Osbourne said the script for the film is finished and the production is now searching for a director.
“Script done. We’re currently going out to directors,” he said. “It’s gung ho.”
He added that the film is being built with longtime Ozzy and Black Sabbath fans front of mind, rather than chasing awards-season prestige.
“We’ve got to give the fans what they want,” he said. “We can’t make this artsy, kind of esoteric biopic. No, we’re not doing that. That’s our people, that’s who we’re catering for.”
The biopic is being produced through Sony Pictures and Polygram Entertainment, with an Academy Award-nominated script from Lee Hall, the writer behind Billy Elliot. Osbourne also revealed there are early conversations happening around who might play his father, though he wouldn’t be drawn on names.
“We do,” he said, when asked if the team had an actor in mind. “I’m not allowed to say, but conversations have been had.”

The film was first announced back in 2021, billed as a chronicle of “the extraordinary life of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, and the great love story between him and his wife, Sharon.” It’s taken on added weight since Ozzy’s death in July 2025. The Black Sabbath frontman was 76 and had been living with Parkinson’s disease and coronary artery disease before he died of a heart attack.
