Still amped from the recent Falls Festival and Meredith 2014 lineup reveals? Well, get your excitement levels up once more, because the last few days have brought another four festival bills that are well worth your attention.

From one of Western Australia’s mainstay events to a brand new Aussie metal festival, there’s something for everybody – starting with the return of an All-Aussie boutique festival held on top of a mountain.

We’d already pegged Paradise Music Festival as a boutique Aussie event well worth your attendance when they announced their return last week, and now those sentiments are even stronger as the lineup is revealed.

Leading the all-Aussie list of indie artists heading to the Lake Mountain Alpine Resort for Paradise Music Festival 2014, taking place on the weekend of 28th – 30th November, 2014, is none other than Sydney’s sonic provocateur Kirin J. Callinan, Melbourne’s electro auteur Oscar Key Song, and Perth electronic trio Crooked Colours.

Joining them on the bill are cutting edge electronica and producers like UV Boi, Banoffee, Lanks, Young Franco, Tranter, Otologic, and if rock is more your bag, then there’s Drunk Mums, the heavy-hitting The Sinking Teeth, and the left-field Foreign/National. Also playing are JPS, Kirkis, Apart From This, Otologic, Tranter, and Total Giovanni and a number of returning favourites from last year’s bill, including Rat & Co, Lucianblomkamp, friendships, DEER, Planète, Null, SILENTJAY, and I’lls – whose member Simon Lam is doubling up with his new project, Klo, and many more.

Paradise Music Festival 2014 will retain its BYO and camping features as well as its dual stages – an outdoor amphitheatre stage for the day, and a “lux indoor nightclub” at night – in the surrounds of the crisp Victorian alpine air near Marysville, at the Lake Mountain Alpine Resort with breathtaking views overlooking the Great Dividing Range.

Paradise Music organisers tease they’ve been plotting their second edition “since the close of our freshman festival last December,” where our Tone Deaf reviewer hailed the event as “one of those crazy lab experiments that turned out to cure something. Get your fix next year.”

Early bird tickets for Paradise 2014 (at just $100) have now been exhausted, with a limited round of first round tickets valued at $130 (+b/f) available for purchase now, including BYO and camping, before rising to $150.

With the East Coast buzzing over the just-announced Falls Festival lineup, now it’s WA’s turn with the annual Southbound festival confirming that once again it’ll be mirroring much of the Falls lineup for its own 2015 celebrations. Once again taking place at Sir Stewart Bovell Park in Busselton, over 3rd and 4th January 2015, Southbound 2015 has an impressive collection of local and international artists alike.

On the international front, there’s big name electronic acts (Robyn & Röyksopp, Todd Terje, SBTRKT, Tycho), plenty of indie delights (Alt-J, Glass Animals, Cold War Kids, George Ezra, Wolf Alice), hip hop (Joey Bada$$, Run The Jewels), plus The Black Lips, German sensations Milky Chance, and even Salt N’ Pepa for the nostalgia factor.

The Australian contingent is equally impressive, with fans kick-starting the New Year with John Butler Trio, Spiderbait, The Temper Trap, The Presets, Jagwar Ma, Remi, Vance Joy, Sticky Fingers, DMA’s, The Kite String Tangle, Tkay Maidza, Alison Wonderland, Bluejuice, Kim Churchill, Movement, and Safia.

Promoters Sunset Events have also made a minor but hugely convenient change to Southbound’s camping arrangements, as previously reported. For the first time in 10 years, campers will be able to drive their cars directly into the grounds and park their vehicles right next to their campsite, following negotiations with the local City of Busselton council.

Tickets for Soutbound 2015 go on sale Monday 26th August at 9am (WST) via the official website and Moshtix, and if previous years are any indication, you’re going to need to be quick on the mouse cursor to ensure you get along to this flagship WA festival.

Despite entering its seventh year, Mullum Mullum remains one of regional Australia’s best kept secrets, putting the northern NSW town of Mullumbimby on the map long before US chart-topping rap export Iggy Azalea did.

Taking place this year from 20th – 23rd November, Mullum’s 2014 edition will see over 120 live music performances and workshops taking place over 12 separate venues, with a huge roster of artists booked in for the four days of festivities.

Topping the bill is legendary Aussie band The Church, The Cat Empire’s Harry James Angus and his backing band, Melbourne soul futurists Saskwatch, and direct from the USA, Hooray For The Riff Raff. There’s plenty to enjoy further down the lineup too, including Husky, The Bombay Royale, Mia Dyson, Hitaus Kaiyote’s Nai Palm, Holy Holy, Kim Churchill, Dubmarine, Bobby Alu, Bullhorn, Liz Stringer, and nearly 50 more Australian artists.

Other acts making the overseas trip include Nahko (of Nahko and Medicine For The People); Canadians C.R. Avery, Andy Brown and Del Barber; Kiwi Marlon Williams; South America’s Bongeziwe Mabandla, and America’s Kristy Lee.

The special events for this year’s edition are still to be announced, but ticket sales are already well underway, ranging for as little as $58 – $82 for an adult day pass, all the way up to a four day Gold Pass for $240 (+b/f). Being a family friendly event, there’s also a wealth of reduced Youth and Children passes on offer as well as a host of accommodation offers for those making the trip, whether it’s from a far-flung destination or the 15 minute hike north from Byron Bay.

Last but not least arrives news of a curious new addition to the Aussie music festival roster: a Mexican-themed metal and hard rock event.

Launching this October, the inaugural Fiesta-A-Cielo (which roughly translates to ‘festival of the sky’) will host Mexican foods, market stalls, and a sideshow alley filled with activities like a chilli eating contest, ‘Pin The Tail On The Langanke’, ‘Pinga Piñata’, and more.

Taking the honours of leading the first-ever Fiesta-A-Cielo lineup is 11 of Australia’s best emerging heavy acts – cheekily split into ‘Hot’ and ‘Spicy’ categories.

Headlining will be NSW’s Trophy Eyes, who were the winners of Triple J Unearthed Soundwave competition, joined in the ‘hot’ stakes by fellow victorious Unearthed band Life Pilot, Central Coast hardcore act Staunch, Mindshank, and The Weather Underground. Topping the ‘spicy’ stall is Newcastle’s Rivalries, coastal crusaders Mark My Words, Diviner, Scars Have Faded, Lost Without Life, and all the way from Perth, metalcore outfit Aveira Skies.

All 11 bands will be on hand to provide a brutal soundtrack for the event, hosted at the Youth Arts Warehouse in Gosford, NSW on Saturday 4th October. One caveat though, don’t expect any cerveza south of this border – Fiesta-A-Cielo is a strictly all ages drug and alcohol free event. Tickets are just $18.40 (+b/f) and are on sale now via OzTix.
