Paul McCartney’s avant-garde 1965 Christmas mixtape has surfaced for your listening pleasure

Paul McCartney was always the most jovial of the fab four. Let’s face it, the man is responsible for the most light-hearted of love songs that your wine drunk  Aunty can dance to her heart’s fulfillment on Christmas night to. Macca’s talents aren’t limited to writing the most iconic music of all time, he seems to have been a great gift giver as well.

A mixtape the Beatle gifted to his bandmates 50 years ago entitled Unforgettable has surfaced online for your streaming pleasure, featuring sampled songs, original sketches, and avant-garde loops.

There were only 3 or 4 copies of the custom vinyl mixtape manufactured that also includes tracks by by The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, Martha and the Vandellas, and Elvis Presley with McCartney taking the role of DJ on the tape.

As explained to Rolling Stone, Mac said that most of his forays into experimental home recordings were born out of boredom. You’d think in between writing landmark rock albums you’d have

“I used to experiment with [a couple of Brenell tape recorders] when I had an afternoon off, which was quite often. [The Beatles would] be playing in the evening… I wasn’t in a routine. I could stay up till three in the morning, sleep through till two in the afternoon, and often did. It was a very free, formless time for me… So I would sit around all day, creating little tapes.”
