Pavement front man Steve Malkmus has hinted on stage that the band may be about to call it quits. Playing the Matador Records 20th birthday party gig in Las Vegas on Friday, the band’s set was plagued by technical difficulties and it appears from the frosty atmosphere on stage that several members of the band aren’t speaking to others. Guitarist Scott ‘Spiral Stairs’ Kannberg smashed a guitar into an amp in frustration, while Malkmus ominously informed the audience “It’s great that Matador organised this event,” he said. “I think it’s going to be important that you came here.” The band have announced no plans for further gigs.
