Pearl Jam have announced the postponement of all scheduled Gigaton U.S. tour dates amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis. The legendary grunge act were set to kick off their tour on March 18th at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, but it has been postponed to an as-yet-indeterminate date.

“We’ve worked hard with all our management and business associates to find other solutions or options but the levels of risk to our audience and their communities is simply too high for our comfort level,”  the band shared in a statement posted to their website. “Add to that we also have a unique group of passionate fans who travel far and wide. We’ve always been humbled by this and respect their energies and devotion. However in this case, travel is something to avoid.”

“It certainly hasn’t helped that there’s been no clear messages from our government regarding people’s safety and our ability to go to work.

“Having no examples of our national health department’s ability to get ahead of this, we have no reason to believe that it will be under control in the coming weeks ahead.”

As it stands, the scheduled European tour dates are still set to go ahead.

The Gigaton tour joins a number of events across the globe that have been postponed or cancelled over the coronavirus threat. Earlier today, rumours surfaced that the postponement of Californian mega-festival Coachella is imminent. The festival was scheduled to kick off next month, but it’s been suggested that it will now take place across the weekends of October 9th to 11th, and 16th to 18th.

In addition to the Coachella postponement, Miley Cyrus has been forced to cancel her upcoming one-off Australian appearance for bushfire relief over coronavirus fears.

“I am so disappointed to not be there, but I have to do what is right to protect the health and safety of my band and crew,” Cyrus shared in a statement. “I will still be making a donation to help the victims of the Australian bush fire. I’m sorry to miss everyone in Australia, but I will be back soon.”
