Electronic duo and all round party boys Peking Duk definitely live life in the fast lane, so to speak. It was literally the case when the pair were given the chance to jump in a V8 Supercar for a hot lap while in Adelaide for their performance at the Clipsal 500.

“It was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done,” says one half of the duo, Adam Hyde. “We were just in the back of the car screaming like schoolgirls while this dude was just fanging it. He was like 70 years old, a proper legendary geezer that had been around the track a few times, and he definitely put the pedal to the medal!”

Peking Duk, aka Adam and his bandmate Reuben Styles, clearly loved the experience so much they’re back for this year’s Gold Coast 600 event, along with The Living End, The Rubens, Birds of Tokyo and LDRU. This time, they’ll be bringing a bunch of new tunes with them, and maybe a couple of mates.

“We’ve got our single on the way which we’ve been road testing,” says Adam. “We just got back from NZ and it went down crazy there so we’ll definitely play a bunch of new music, maybe bring out a few special guests and just make a nice, fun, sweaty bonanza.”

Predominately a singles group, Peking Duk have an album in the works and Adam believes the full-length LP is coming back in vogue, largely due to another famous Aussie producer.

“We were gonna drop a single straight after ‘Say My Name’ but we just decided to sit it out and just keep writing. The music that has come out of it has been incredible, and it’s exceeded our expectations. It’s been a mind-opening experience in the best way possible.

“We sort of had that mentality for a while, let’s just keep rolling out the singles, but I think the art of the full length album is definitely coming back into full swing, now more than ever. Flume is definitely a big part of that and the whole movement in general, particularly in Australia.”

Aside from a series of festival dates in the U.S. and Europe over the few months, Peking Duk are also due to play in two brand new festivals in Australia: This That in Newcastle, NSW and Spilt Milk in Canberra.

“There’s a lot of new festivals coming out of the woodworks, which is really exciting. A lot of them are young people as well that are deciding to get some money together, book lots of acts and throw a big party. More people are acting on their ideas which creates more parties, more business ventures and more shit going on.”

It doesn’t end there for the boys either. After the tour, Hyde and Styles will be back in the studio, working on the new album, then on to tour it. No rest for the wicked, it seems.

“The plan is to get the album out around July next year but we’re gonna have the next single out within a month from now. We go over to Europe in October, do a bunch of party festivals and then next year do it all again, just bigger and better.”
