Please meet Pete Porker and Tim Kent the frontman of Los Capitanes.
I Can’t Believe It’s Not PORKERS!
What has been your most memorable gig to date?
One that springs to mind was the Middle East Club in Boston with The Slackers and Bim Skala Bim in ’99! But then the best gigs I probably don’t remember…
When and how did the Porkers first begin?
It was a drunken idea back in ’85 which became an actuality in ’87 – how exactly is like pondering the beginning of the universe, improbable but somehow here…
Who/what are your main influences when making music?
In the early days it was bands like The Specials, Bad Manners, The Allniters and later it was Fishbone and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, but we’ve always thrown in a little extra from here and there: Elvis, Devo, Mel Brooks…
If you could curate your own festival, where would it be, who would be on the bill, how many people would you let in and what features would it have?
I could put together a ‘dream Line-up’ of acts living and dead, but in actual fact it would be a festival of great ‘overlooked’ bands, with the budget of a big festival, and then I’d have Triple J promote the shit out of it like they do with other festivals…
If the Porkers were a movie, what movie would they be?
Cannonball Run.
Can you predict the next big music trend?
It will be a genre already existing, but with a different wardrobe, and called something else!
LOS CAPITANES
So what was your first Porkers experience?
We first played with the Porkers about 7 years ago in Canberra when we were still babies, suckling on that sweet pork flavoured teet. I’d never seen so many people that drunk or sweaty before! It was a very delightful/disturbing experience.
What live performance you saw, or video clip was a defining ‘Fuck Yeah!’ moment in your life?
The first ever live show I saw was Frenzal Rhomb when I was still in high school. They were just so energetic and hilarious…plus I’d never seen a drummer smoke and play at the same time, it was the closest thing I’ve ever had to a religious experience!
Who with, and where would be your dream gig?
A Long Beach house party with Sublime.
If Los Capitanes was a cocktail, what would they be?
The Sneaky Russian: basically you just mix vodka and beer until you eventually black out.
What kind of music will you be playing when you are 45?
Probably 9th wave ska…
Do you think Cherry Bar is ready for this show?
Well the last time I was at Cherry bar I got my leg humped by a guy in a blood splattered wedding dress, so I guess in a way, they are…
Catch Pete Porker and Los Capitanes at Cherry Bar on Saturday 1st September!
