Former Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy has offered fans an update into his health issues, noting he’s “made a full recovery” following a heart attack in New York.

Earlier this month, fans of both Bauhaus and Peter Murphy were shocked to learn that the iconic gothic-rock vocalist had been hospitalised after suffering a heart attack in New York City.

“On the evening of August 13, Peter Murphy was rushed to a local New York City hospital due to shortness of breath and was unable to perform his scheduled concert at Le Poisson Rouge,” a statement on Murphy’s website read.

“Early Wednesday morning, it was determined that Peter had suffered a heart attack.

“Mr. Murphy was admitted for treatment of a myocardial infarction, had two stents placed in his right coronary artery, and was started on medications to manage his heart condition,” added Lenox Hill Hospital Cardiologist Jason Song.

Now, Murphy has offered up a statement to his fans, thanking them for his support, and revealing he has made a full recovery.

Taking to both his website and social media, Peter Murphy revealed that he’s “up and running” again, but has not revealed when he’ll be hitting the stage again.

“Following my recent episode in New York City with my heart attack and being admitted into Lenox Hill Hospital and seeing myself go through the rigors of intensive care, I am very happy to say that I have made a full recovery,” Murphy explained.

“Thanks to the superb team of doctors, specialists, nurses and care staff. I am so glad to say I am up and running again.

My tour manager Brian Lowe and my assistant Chantal Thomas were directly instrumental in saving my life and to whom I cannot thank enough. I also want to thank every single friend and fan who has been supporting me throughout this ordeal. I remain grateful especially to my Bauhaus band mates.”

The news of Murphy’s heart attack came just nine days after the 40th anniversary of Bauhaus’ ‘Bela Lugosi’s Dead’, the group’s debut single, and the tune often considered to be the first example of “gothic rock”.

While Peter Murphy last visited Australia in October of 2018 with Bauhaus bassist David J, the rocker made headlines after being kicked out of his own concert last December.

“The world-famous goth rock star Peter Murphy, 61, was thrown out by organizers from his concert at Nalen in Stockholm on Wednesday night,” wrote Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter at the time.

“The rejection was preceded by throwing bottles from scene that injured a concert visitor in the face. When Murphy threw out, he ended up fighting with the guards.”

A statement from organisers later claimed that Murphy had “acted in an unacceptable way towards the audience and our staff,” though the post was later deleted from social media.
