Phosphorescent Meredith 2014 Sideshows have been announced with the US songwriter playing special headline sideshows to accompany his forthcoming appearance at the annual music festival.
Between performing at The ‘Sup as part of the Meredith Music Festival 2014 lineup, Athens-bred musician Matthew Houck – the brains behind the Phosphorescent moniker – will bring his esteemed songbook to Melbourne’s Corner Hotel and the Oxford Art Factory, presented by Handsome Tours. Though celebrated in his native country, Phosphorescent doesn’t have quite as lengthy an affinity with Australia, but it’s comparatively early days yet for the skilled singer-songwriter. The prolific craftsman has released six studio albums since starting out back in 2001, and in 2011 visited our country for the first time as part of the inaugural Harvest Festival where he won over crowds with his nuanced brand of country-flecked, psych-tinged indie rock.

In the years since then Houck dropped Muchacho (2013), his most acclaimed worked to date which stunned fans and critics alike upon its release, garnering bulletproof critical reviews for its accomplished sense of songwriting – as galvanised on popular single ‘Song For Zula’, an unlikely epic inspired by classic Bette Midler ballad ‘The Rose’.
Phosphorscent has been touring Muchacho ever since to equally gushing praise, even recording and releasing the praiseworthy Live At St Pancras live set to accompany the album’s deluxe reissue.
