With the sad news that Big Day Out, one of Australia’s most iconic and longest-running festivals, won’t be going ahead in 2015 we’ve gotten all misty-eyed and decided to take a look back over the event’s richly textured history.

Naturally over the course of nearly 23 years, one of the largest touring festival is going to have its share of ups and downs, but in either case, it’s also produced the most memorable moments in our country’s music history.

We take a look back at some of the events that have shaped and changed Big Day Out’s life – and our own – over the years.
