Nick Cave And PJ Harvey

The first-ever soundtrack for cult British crime show, Peaky Blinders, has been announced and boy, it is fuckin’ biblical mate. The soundtrack features contributions from Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, Anna Calvi, Black Sabbath, Idles and more.

The soundtrack is set to drop on November 15th. In the meantime, to keep us Shelby devotees satiated until the soundtrack’s release, we’ve been blessed with PJ Harvey’s cover of the show’s theme song, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ ‘Red Right Hand’.

A bunch of artists have offered their interpretation of Cave’s 1994 track for the Peaky Blinders soundtrack — including Iggy Pop and Snoop Dogg. Harvey’s reimagination of the track is haunting, unsettling and utterly perfect. You can listen to it below.

Back in August, Nick Cave wrote about the dissolution of his relationship with Harvey on his Red Hand Files website.

“The truth of the matter is that I didn’t give up on PJ Harvey, PJ Harvey gave up on me,” Cave explained. “There I am, sitting on the floor of my flat in Notting Hill, sun streaming through the window (maybe), feeling good, with a talented and beautiful young singer for a girlfriend, when the phone rings. I pick up the phone and it’s Polly”

“I was so surprised I almost dropped my syringe,” he added, acknowledging that while “drugs might have been a problem between us”, he believed that they both had personal issues which they could not be addressed while together.

“I think at the end of the day it came down to the fact that we were both fiercely creative people, each too self-absorbed to ever be able to inhabit the same space in any truly meaningful way.”

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds released their seventeenth studio album, Ghosteen, earlier this month.
