He’s considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time, and now music legend Jimi Hendrix could be set to have his name affixed to a US post office.
Today marks what would have been Jimi Hendrix’s 76th birthday, and what better way to celebrate than with the news that US politicians are aiming to name a post office after the late guitar legend.
As Consequence Of Sound reports, Washington state politician Rep. Adam Smith has put forward Bill H.R.6628, which aims to rename a post office in Renton as the ‘James Marshall ‘Jimi’ Hendrix Post Office Building’.
First introduced in July, Rep. Smith explained that the bill is, “one more way we can celebrate the legacy of one of the greatest musicians of our time and the importance of the south Seattle and Renton areas in his enduring legacy.”
“The Puget Sound Region is home to a museum that showcases Hendrix’s life and work, a park dedicated to his memory, and several memorials visited by thousands every year.”
“This designation will further honor this iconic artist and his Seattle roots.”

At the current time, the bill still needs to be voted on, but has so far attracted the unanimous support of Washington’s eight Congressional representatives, and looks as though it may indeed go ahead.
If successful, the post office will become one of many Washington sites that honour the the late icon, including the Jimi Hendrix Park, which opened in Seattle last year.
The post office at the centre of this renaming process happens to be located on Northeast 4th Street, where Hendrix himself grew up, and just blocks away from Greenwood Memorial Park, where the rocker is buried.
Of course, this wouldn’t be the first mail-related memorial that Hendrix has received, with his image being placed upon a series of music-themed postage stamps back in 2014.
