In a new poll conducted by Music Radar in search of the best drummer in Metal, Jay Weinberg has topped the lot, even coming above the likes of Slayer and Rammstein.
It’s almost the end of the year, which means controversial lists will be coming out of every single music publication that you know of. That’s right, it’s list season, and year-end opinions and polls are riper than ever.
To join in with the end of year chaos, Music Radar has conducted a poll to see who the best drummer in metal is right now, and Slipknot’s Jay Weinberg was given the crown. Love him or hate him, he rightfully won the crown based on a large number of votes, so if you didn’t vote, you can’t really complain.
According to the results, Weinberg received almost double the number of votes compared to the other contestants. Following Weinberg was Slayer’s Paul Bostaph, Korn’s Ray Luzier, Amon Amarth’s Jocke Wallgren, Machine Head’s Chris Kontos, Rammstein’s Christoph Schneider, Lamb of God’s Art Cruz and Overkill’s Jason Bittner.
Together all 8 drummers form the best drummers in metal right now, and they should all be rightfully celebrated for the incredible work that they do in their bands. It’s no easy feat, and it deserves a huge congratulatory shout from us all. However, one person has to come out on top, and sorry to say folks, it was Slipknot.
Noticeable absences from the poll include the very popular choice of Danny Carey from Tool. Tool’s highly anticipated late-August release Fear Inoculum debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, just as Slipknot’s We Are Not Your Kind had just a few weeks prior.
Jay Weinberg joined Slipknot in 2014 after they parted ways with former drummer Joey Jordison. He’s appeared on two studio albums, 2014’s The Gray Chapter and this year’s We Are Not Your Kind. Congrats to Jay for this recognition!
