Catch Pete Porker doing a set of classic Porkers songs backed by Los Capitanes this September at Cherry in I Can’t Believe It’s Not Porkers!

The Porkers story starts in 1985, in the East coast Australian city of Newcastle, 2 rude boys, Pete and Sean decide in a drunken stupor, after the demise of some of their favourite Australian ska bands, that they would start a band. The fact that neither of them could play an instrument didn’t seem like an obstacle, and they set out to find local musicians to back their all-singing, all-dancing show.

Los Capitanes are arguably Australia’s leading punk/rock/ska/reggae band, Los Capitanes are renowned for their energetic live shows and impromptu musical madness, consistently wowing audiences with their unique fusion of fresh ska sounds, chilled reggae, punk-rock attitude, and horn lines a-go-go!

Los Capitanes have been paying dues and kicking arse for the past 8 years, proudly flying the flag for the ACT music scene and exhibiting their sincere commitment to DIY music culture. This dedication was rewarded when they won Triple J Unearthed in 2010.

With a sound once described as ‘Frenzal Rhomb meets The Cat Empire’, Los Capitanes are not an easy band to pigeonhole. This versatility has seen the boys play with the likes of The Specials, Parkway Drive, Koolism, Gyroscope, The Living End, Fireballs, Carpathian, Reel Big Fish, The Whitlams, The Hilltop Hoods, Against Me! Regurgitator, and a swag of other talent.

Also appearing on the night are are Topnovil. Heavily influenced by “77” Punk and third generation Punk Rock bands, Wollongong’s Topnovil have developed a distinctive Punk Rock sound with undertones of Ska. A must see for fans of Rancid, Operation Ivy and The Bouncing Souls and The Black Cherry DJs – Ruby Riot & CeeCee (Joan Jett’s only support 2011), These ladies will have you rocking, reeling, drinking and dancing the night away until close!
