A posthumous DMX album, Exodus, will be released on May 28th via Def Jam, executive producer Swizz Beatz announced in a press release.

The album will mark the first DMX album since 2012’s Undisputed and feature all-new original material. Exodus also marks the first DMX album released through Def Jam in 17 years, following 2003’s Grand Champ.

“My brother X was one of the most pure and rare souls I’ve ever met. He lived his life dedicated to his family and music,” wrote Swizz Beatz. “Most of all, he was generous with his giving and loved his fans beyond measure.

“This album, X couldn’t wait for his fans all around the world to hear and show just how much he valued each and every single person that has supported him unconditionally.”

The album cover was shot by longtime collaborator Jonathan Mannion, and it’s record shares the name with the rapper’s son, Exodus Simmons. A tracklist for the album is yet to be announced.

DMX, real name Earl Simmons, passed away on Friday, April 9th at White Plains hospital in New York, one week after suffering a heart attack. He was 50 years old.

“Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end,” his family shared at the time of his death. “He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever.”
