Auckland’s Mixed Vege have just delivered their debut single, ‘Take Take Take’, and it’s the hypnotic indie-rock tune that you’ve been waiting for.

If the name Mixed Vege isn’t familiar to you, then you might be familiar with the man behind the project, Goodshirt’s Rodney Fisher. Known for his stunning tunes like ‘Sophie’ and ‘Fiji Baby’, Mixed Vege’s sound is a return to the DIY alt-pop side of things that fans of Fisher’s previous work might be expecting.

With a playful, lo-fi clip directed by Fisher himself, ‘Take Take Take’ is a catchy tune that reflects on the ideas of toxic masculinity within the culture of New Zealand.

“The track is basically about growing up in New Zealand, and struggling with your identity,” Rodney Fisher explained. “The pressure to be in the boys club, and sometimes succeeding, but mostly rebelling against what you feel people want you to be.”

“Having a sense of belonging is something that a lot of males in this country struggle with. ‘She’ll be right mate’ is not always the case.”
