We have the pleasure of helping introduce to you one of Melbourne’s most exciting upcoming hip hop acts Soul Language. Comprised of rapper Tom Kwan and producer Stay Nice they’re gearing up to echo through the industry with the announcement of their debut EP Whadup Life?, set for release on April 8.
Today the guys are unveiling the video accompaniment to their new single (and EP title track) ‘Whadup Life?’, directed by fellow Melburnians Luke Lowell Simm and Angi Byrd.
Tom Kwan the duo’s emcee explains the story behind the track “it’s a pretty cool concept song really. It’s about having a conversation with life as if it were a woman and death as if it were a man”.
“It’s through a framework like this, that some really clear realisations can surface through the writing process… it’s basically a contemplation about the fact that death is a part of life. Outside of hip hop, I’ve worked in hospitals and aged care facilities and been around death, and the feeling of its inevitability. This has reminded me to focus on what is truly important, and let go of a whole ton of stresses and dramas that really don’t matter that much considering how precious life is.”
‘Whadup Life?’ is an impressive introduction to a two piece we’ll be hearing a lot more from as we roll into 2016. For more info not he guys and their upcoming EP release pop by the band’s Facebook page.
