For a few years now, Aussie audiences have been vibing out to the slick, indie-rock tunes delivered by Western Australian outfit The Gussett.
Having first formed in 2016, the group’s breezy brand of indie-rock have seen them receiving numerous comparisons to the likes of Ocean Alley, with their laidback, summery anthems making them favourites amongst Aussie audiences.
Releasing their debut EP last year, 2019 has seen the release of a handful of new songs, with ‘Something Good’ serving as their latest tune last week.
Recorded at Perth’s Foxhole Studios with Chad Blondel and Don Bartley on mixing and mastering, The Gusset have delivered a stunning new track with ‘Something Good’, with high energy and a rich sound helping the group to showcase their professionalism with ease.
A reflective tune that touches on relationships and overcoming personal obstacles, The Gusset explain it’s the first part of their new chapter.
“‘Something Good’ follows a storyline a little too familiar for many listeners,” the band explains. “Diving into the desire to form a relationship, though despite your best efforts, you can just never get it right.
“Mixing catchy melodies with psych pop guitar hooks, the lyrics layer overthinking, frustration and self-doubt. The track spirals to a close with the realisation that once the time has passed, you can’t help but reflect on where it all went wrong and what could have been something good.”

Now, the band have shared the official video clip for ‘Something Good’, with hazy, nostalgic footage of a party helping to underpin the personal lyrics of the track, and put the whole thing into context.
It’s slick, it’s refreshing, and it’s everything that The Gusset stand for all rolled into one easily-accessible package. If you’re liking what you’re hearing (and seeing), be sure to catch the band when they launch their new single at the Aardvark in Fremantle on December 7th.
