Melbourne’s Pridelands have emerged from their studio hibernation holding high above their heads ‘Dark Sources’, a brand new joint from the group who have also made clear their load up the van and hit the highways of Australia in support of the new single.
With a name as ominous as ‘Dark Sources’, it’s easy to think there’s a bit of a story to go along with the single and you thought right. Thematically, the song plays with the notion of learning knowledge one is not meant to know. Forbidden wisdom as it were, and the way gatekeepers resist the spread of this knowledge.
Pridelands vocalist Joshua Cory explains, “The song describes the pressure of feeling silenced by the weight of things you’ve discovered by chance. If we didn’t know about the darker sides to the world and industries we’ve found ourselves in as people over the years, would we be better, happier people? Would we be better off without it?”
The track is the first warning shot fired from the band since the release of their 2018 EP, Any Colour You Desire. The EP pricked up ears the world over, scoring the band some well-earned and high profile support slots alongside native heavyweights Northlane, Hellions, Saviour and travelling acts The Ghost Inside, Attila, Stray From The Path and Counterparts.
To bring Dark Sources home in style, Pridelands will be hitting most major cities this July for the Dark Sources tour. As we saw with their EP tour last year, Pridelands are developing somewhat of a habit for selling out shows. Joining them on the run will be BLKLST.
