Next year marks the 20th anniversary of Primal Scream’s era defining magnum opus Sceamadelica, and it’s more popular than ever, judging by the way the band’s two Australian Big Day Out sideshows sold out in less than a day yesterday. Giving the fans what they want, the band are also in the process of re-mastering the album for re-release next year. What’s more, the remastering is being overseen by legendary studio boffin, Kevin Shields, of My Bloody Valentine.

Of getting their occasional collaborator and touring member Shields to tweak the album, front man Bobby Gillespie says “He’s just really good with sound and frequencies, we thought it was a fun thing to do. Kevin, Andrew [Innes, the Scream’s guitarist] and myself went down to the mastering room. Kevin’s the one person in the world that all remastering engineers would hate to see walking into the studio, when we walked in the guy nearly had a fucking heart attack!”

The reissue will be out in March and will also have a collector’s edition box set version full of live sets, rarities , a documentary and book, as well as a remastered version of the band’s hard to get Dixie Narco EP.
