The degree of a band’s success can often be measured by the dedication of their passionate fans.
Case in point: some Violent Soho diehards who have recently proven themselves to come up with some ingenious dedications in honour of the Brisbane grunge disciples.
Don’t worry, we’re not talking terrible tattoos (though the Aussie four-piece’s album covers lend themselves to some killer skin art), instead we’re talking about a guy who invented a new way to party at the band’s winning Splendour In The Grass set and a group who’ve crafted the perfect piece of Violent Soho merchandise.
The former comes to our attention via the four-piece themselves, who shared an image on their social media of an industrious fan who invented the world’s first ‘gumboot bong’.
Eluding the heavy sniffer dog presence at the Byron Bay festival, the punter gave Golden Plains’ own ‘Golden Boot’ tradition a whole new meaning. “This bloke legit ripping a cone through a gumboot during our set at Splendour. What a fucking master!” Their kudos is no surprise, given the band’s own ‘leisure activities’ while on tour.
Speaking of blazing, Violent Soho are offering the chance to win a one-of-a-kind “Blazin’ Skull Beer Pong Table” as incentive to pre-order the re-release of their highly acclaimed third album Hungry Ghost on limited edition coloured vinyl.
Commission and created by Mitt’s Beerpong, a small Melbourne based rental and sale business, the unique table features the band’s skull logo and an easy set-up (but no spot for your boot-bong, damn). The table is an exclusive prize for one lucky winner who pre-orders the swanky new Hungry Ghost vinyl in the first week of sale.

The new edition of the record (named by you as one of the Top 10 albums of 2013) will be available from the 24Hundred webstore, beginning Friday 15th August, and in three collector-worthy colours for a limited quantity of 500 units each. Take a peek below, along with the ‘Hell Fuck Yeah!’ worthy beer pong table – the perfect accompaniment for your VS-branded socks and skateboard.
Hungry Ghost is also getting a US release this September following the Mansfield musicians inking an international deal with punk label Side One Dummy!, while a censored version of bona-fide festival anthem ‘Covered In Chrome’ hitting radio last month, removing the iconic ‘Hell Fuck Yeah!’ catch-cry.
Having completed a sold out national headline tour and rocking Splendour, Violent Soho are now set for two more festivals at the end of the month: WA’s North West Festival on 22nd – 24th August with a lineup featuring The Dandy Warhols, Wolfmother, Hermitude, Illy, Kingswood, and more; then Sunny Dayz Festival on Sunday 24th August alongside The Preatures, Alison Wonderland, Dan Sultan, Remi, Allday, and more.
