It hasn’t even been a year since Prophets Of Rage released their debut studio album, but the group have announced they’ve already finished recording their follow-up, and will be dropping new material in a matter of days.

Earlier this year, rap rock supergroup Prophets Of Rage made their Australian debut, performing as part of the inaugural Aussie Download Festival. These shows came off the back of the group’s self-titled debut, which was released back in September.

With the group comprising of members of Rage Against The Machine, Cypress Hill, and Public Enemy, fans have anxiously been awaiting more music from this stunning collective. However, it seems like they won’t be waiting too long at all.

In an interview with Finland’s Kaaos TV (via Blabbermouth) ahead of a show over the weekend, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk sat down to discuss the group’s music, and what the response to their first record had been like.

“As far as I’m concerned, it was a great imprint of us as a band,” Tim Commerford explained. “We made a record, and it was an imprint in time, and we did that.”

“And we’re on to another record now; we’ve already finished a 13-song record that we are just in the process of just putting together at this moment in time. So there’s a lot going on.”

“We have a new song that comes out on July 7th. And it’s on to new territory, new sounds and new music.”

Brad Wilk also discussed that despite the fact that while the group’s creation was in response to the current state of the world, the members of Prophets Of Rage came together rather organically in regards to the musical side of things.

“I don’t think anybody was putting expiration dates on it when we got together,” explained Wilk. “So we got together and started songs, and it started sounding really good and we all were into what we were doing. So that made sense to continue.”

“We just spent a few months writing new music, and it was an awesome experience with [Tim] and with B-Real and Chuck [D] and Tom [Morello] and [DJ] Lord,” he continued. “I think that we can continue making new music. The more new music we play live, the better it’ll be.”

There’s so many things that we can do, and so I’m excited about just the future of making new music and what that means. And, like I said, we just finished our new musical outlook, and it’s a beautiful one.”

Tim Commerford also took the time to discuss what the group’s new record will sound like, noting that it’s going to be a bit of a departure from what fans heard with the first album.

“It’s a different direction, it’s not the same, and I love that,” he explained. “I grew up, and Brad grew up, listening to bands that made records and you were waiting at the record store to hear what it might sound like — the new record by some band. And so that’s the way I feel like we’re doing it right now.”

“We’re growing and we’re creating and we’re going in a new territory and I feel really good about it.”

So according to Tim Commerford, the group will be dropping a new single on Saturday, July 7th (most likely Sunday for their Aussie fans). Regardless of whenever it is actually released, we can say with absolute certainty that we can’t wait to hear what this “different direction” will sound like for the band.
