Perth musician Dan Cribb is three songs into a yearlong punk rock tribute to The Simpsons, in which he records a punk version of one of the show’s classic tunes each month, and uploads it to Bandcamp.
The most recent installment in the excellently-named Worst Tribute Ever project is a two-fer with Crabb tackling The Be Sharps’ barbershop classic, ‘Baby On Board’ – which you may recall was inspired by Homer’s literal Baby On Board sign; inspiration strikes at magical times, after all.
There’s also an a cappella intro as a Yuletide treat in the form of a harmonised ‘Whacking Day’ – the blood-thirsty anthem to Springfield’s traditional day of belting snakes with baseball bats. The Christmas link? Well, that track adopts the melody from O’ Christmas Tree.
Whacking Day/Baby On Board can be listened to here, and if you like what you hear, make sure you check out the first two tracks, a version of the classic bar-room romp ‘Flaming Moe’s’, and the medley Dr. Zaius/Chimpan-A to Chimpan-Z, from Troy McClure’s musical version of ‘Planet Of The Apes’.
Can we suggest ‘An Amendment To Be’ for next month’s offering?
