The Pussy Riot members that invaded the field during the 2018 World Cup final in Moscow have been sentenced to jail, as Pitchfork reports.
The four protestors—Veronica “Nika” Nikulshina, Olga Kuracheva, Olga Pakhtusova, and Petya Verzilov— have been sentenced to 15 days in Russian jail. They have also been banned from attending sports events for three years.
Following the world cup protest, Pussy Riot claimed responsibility for the demonstration via social media. In a statement released on twitter the band produced a list of demands from the Russian Government. The demands included:
- Let all political prisoners free
- Not imprison for likes.
- Stop Illegal arrests on rallies.
- Allow political competition in the country
- Not fabricate criminal accusations and not keep people in jails for no reason.
- Turn the earthly policeman into the heavenly policeman.
