The new Queens Of The Stone Age album is shaping up to be a belter, with ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons joining Dave Grohl as some of the special guests set to feature.
We’re just under two months away from the two-year anniversary of Queens Of The Stone Age’s last album, Villains. Their highest-charting release to date, it’s pretty safe to say that fans are likely expecting a rather big follow-up in the near future.
However, instead of keeping fans waiting for a number of years in between, it seems like we’re set to see something of a relatively quick turnaround, with the new album slated to feature a number of special guests.
Speaking to eonmusic while at Hellfest in France recently, ZZ Top guitarist and singer Billy Gibbons recently revealed that he will be making an appearance on the new Queens Of The Stone Age album, alongside Dave Grohl.
“Just one month ago I was making a record with Queens Of The Stone Age”, Gibbons revealed “and Dave Grohl was also taking part and he decided to have a big barbecue.
“So there was this interesting gathering. So, we spent one hour telling stories, great stories remembering these lovely guys.”

However, in case you were wondering if Billy Gibbons might have become involved in the prospective revival of The Desert Sessions, the iconic axeman revealed that he was indeed taking part in a new album by Queens Of The Stone Age.
“I was talking with Josh just yesterday, and I was very excited,” ehe explained, before touching on some of the unconventional sounds that will appear on the record.
“We had gone to the desert to work on just a couple of tracks, and I was outside, and Josh came out of the studio, and he had this box, and it was making some strange noise, and I said, ‘hey, what is that?’
“And he goes; “I don’t know, I just found it”; I said; “Don’t touch a thing; we’re going to use it for the song!” So that’s how it started.”
As for when we might actually new tunes, well, it looks like we won’t be waiting long, with Billy Gibbons confirming that Josh Homme has “completed it”, noting that “I think that he said he wants to put it out Halloween. It’ll be good.”
Of course, it’s worth mentioning that this wouldn’t be the first time that Billy Gibbons has hooked up with Queens Of The Stone Age, having played guitar on ‘Burn The Witch’, ‘Precious And Grace’, and ‘Like A Drug’ from 2005’s Lullabies To Paralyze.
Likewise, Dave Grohl became known to QOTSA fans after playing drums on their 2002 breakthrough Songs For The Deaf, but apart from becoming a musical guest on 2013’s …Like Clockwork, fans are eager to have the Foo Fighters frontman back behind the kit once again.
