Fresh from the local internet storm surrounding a misoginistic photo sprees on Instragram from Bliss N Eso’s MC Eso, comes comments from another musician about women and consent that are sure to make your blood boil.

On Friday, Cee Lo Green, one half of Gnarls Barkley and now solo musician and part time reality TV karaoke judge, plead no contest to charges that he slipped drugs into a females drink during a dinner last year.

The woman claimed that she had been eating at a sushi restaurant with the 40-year-old singer in October last year and that the next thing she knew she was waking up naked in his bed with him the next day, with no memory of how she got there or what had happened after eating with Green at a restaurant.

Green claimed that the sex was consentual, and although the rape charge was later dropped by prosecutors, he was charged for the drugs offence and the 40-year-old singer has now been sentenced to three years of formal probation and 45 days of community service.

Not satisfied, Green took to Twitter to defend his actions that night, in a series of now-deleted tweets that you simply won’t believe.

According to Metro, in a series of aggressive tweets to people questioning him on Twitter, Green wrote: “if I TRIED but did NOT succeed but the person says I DID then what really happened?… when someone brakes on a home there is broken glass where is your plausible proof anyone was raped… if someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously! so WITH implies consent… People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!”

Yes, he really wrote that, and no, “with” does not in any way imply consent. Sex with someone who is unconscious is rape. The only reason rape charges weren’t filed was because a lack of evidence, but now there seems to be an awful amount of smoke.

Of course, most haven’t taken too kindly to Cee-Lo’s comments.

He sort-of apologised a few hours later, writing “Let me 1st praise god for exoneration fairness & freedom! Secondly I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out of context… I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this. Please forgive me as it was your support that got me thru this to begin with. I’d never condone the harm of any women. Thank you. ”

Following the immense backlash online, and probably a frantic call from his publicist, Green later deleted his Twitter account. And now his TV reality show has been cancelled.

When controversial things happen, celebrities like to disappear for a while. In a couple of days, it’s likely this entire scandal will blow over and we’ll move on to the next public figure who says something terrible about women.

Wouldn’t it be nice if he just disappeared for good.
