Every day we’re faced with an onslaught of album announcements so we thought we’d start sharing the soon-to-be-released love by putting together a list of the most notable and exciting album announcements on a weekly basis. This week’s features everyone’s favourite Glasgow boys Franz Ferdinand much anticipated fourth release, a remix album from Animal Collective, as well as some excited local debuts from The Love Junkees and master collaborator Jan Skubiszewski’s new project Way Of The Eagle.

Right Thoughts, Right Words Right Action

Coming after a four year wait following their 2009 record, Tonight,  Franz Ferdinand’s fourth studio album was recorded at lead guitarist and vocalist, Alex Kapranos’ Scottish studio and guitarist, Nick McCarthy’s Sausage Studios in London.

According to the press release, the LP sees the band “[cementing] their status as a unique and adventurous British band: emboldened by a decade’s undreamt-of worldwide success, yet still daring and defiant. It’s an ecstatic rejection of the drab conventions often accompanying that level of attention and expectation.”

NME confirms that Todd Terje and Bjorn Yttling of Peter, Bjorn snd John are among the artists Franz Ferdinand have worked with on the soon-to-be-released LP.

Fans can look forward to “painterly lyrical detail, heavyweight hooks, precise aesthetic vision and the uncanny ability to marry arch artistic sensibility with pop punch- and push it event further.” Check out the trailer for the release here.

The Love Junkies

Since securing slots at Southbound, Perth Big Day Out, and Groovin’ the Moo as well as supporting British India on the road,  The Love Junkies’ have gaines a slew of new fans who are all greatly anticipated this, their debut LP.

After the success of the samely title track ‘Maybelene’ (which featured on our Mixtape #87) the Perth band are ready for the release.

A quickfire collection of tracks channelling everyone from Mudhoney and The Pixies to Roland S Howard and Blur, Maybelene manages to capture the exact excitement and raw energy of their live show in what is a pure rock record.

Recorded in the band’s home town of Perth WA by Japan-based Canadian producer Alan Brey, the album featuring their breakthrough single ‘Oxymoron’ as well as the title track ‘Maybelene’ and live favourite ‘Black Sheep Blues’.

The Clash
Sound System

Finally! While most iconic band’s have some fort of collector’s edition to appease their fanbase, it’s taken until this year for iconic ska-punk band The Clash to deliver the goods, but we’re so glad they have!

The soon-to-be-released 12-disc set features  the band’s re-mastered recorded works collected together for the first time. Contained within classic boombox packaging designed by Paul Simonon, the boxset contains the band’s 5 seminal studio albums in their original 8-disc format, newly remastered by The Clash, a further 3 discs featuring demos, non-album singles, rarities and B-sides, a DVD with previously unseen footage by both Don Letts and Julien Temple, original promo videos and live footage, an owner’s manual booklet, reprints of the band’s original ‘Armagideon Times’ fanzine as well as a brand new edition curated and designed by Paul Simonon and merchandise including dog tags, badges, stickers and an exclusive Clash poster.

Animal Collective
Monkey Been To Burn Town 


The Baltimore boys will release their remix EP this week which sees the foursome drawing from the band’s latest record, Centipede Hz.

The EP features remixes of ‘Monkey Riches’ by Gang Gang Dance’s Brian DeGraw, Chicago Juke producer Traxman and New York underground dance producers Teengirl Fantasy, as well as a remix of ‘New Town Burnout’ by Seattle based hip-hop collective Shabazz Palaces.

 Centipede Hz was Animal Collectives first record since 2007’s Strawberry Jam to feature all four original band members – Avey Tare, Panda Bear, Geologist and Deakin – and was hailed by a Tone Deaf reviewer as “another classic from Baltimore’s kings of eclectic hectic indie electronica.”

Velma Grove
Older


After recording in London’s famous Red Bull Studios and playing at England’s renowned Download Festival with previous ventures, Maxie Roberts returned home to Australia and applied his new expertise into writing, recording and producing Velma Grove’s debut EP Head For Heart.

Over summer 2012/13 the now seven-piece were back in a professional studio working hard on the debut album Older. During the two-month recording period Velma Grove performed selected new material from the record while supporting artists such as Crooked Saint and Animaux, as well as sweating it out at FarmFest’s 2013 Bender In The Grass Festival.

Now, all that hard work has come to fruition with the release of their debut long player.  Older reflects the maturity developed in both songwriting and instrumentation with the addition of large harmonious arrangements of horn sections, mandolin and strings. The record will be officially launched on Friday July 19th at The Evelyn Hotel in Melbourne.

Nightingale Floods


Oakland’s Rogue Wave are set to release their fifth studio album which heralds a triumphant return to form for the band and recalls their indie-rock and folk-skewed tendencies from their first three albums Out Of The Shadow(2003), Descended Like Vultures (2005), and Asleep At Heaven’s Gate (2007) tinged with an experimental edge.

Produced by John Congleton (Modest Mouse, The Walkmen, David Byrne & St. Vincent, Explosions In The Sky) at Cotati’s Prairie Sun Recording Studios, Nightingale Floorsfeatures 10 dynamic tracks which encompass dreamy washes of sound (No Magnatone), expansive, infectious rock and moody, epic soundscapes.

Meditations on life and death dominate Nightingale Floors, in large part because lead singer Zach Rogue’s father passed away during the writing of the record. This experience was the catalyst for Rogue’s quest to find peace and ultimately finding happiness in facing up to the short time we have on Earth.

Dancing Heals
You Will Never Be Younger Than You Are Now

After a bumper 2012 that ended on a high, thanks to news of Arts Victoria funding for their second album, Melbourne-based indie rock outfit Dancing Heals have emerged from the studio and are ready to hit the road for an east coast tour, in support of the July 5 release of their brand new LP.

While in the US last year,  the band received the exciting news that their debut album, Into The Night, which received rave reviews in Australia with a Tone Deaf reviewer stating it was a “A radiant, melodic debut album from the Melbourne-based four-piece.”

On this latest album, the band produced themselves, once again using Tony Espie (The Avalanches, Brous) to mix and David Walker of Stepford Audio for mastering.   It will be available on digital and CD formats, released on Dancing Heals’ own label Del Grango Records, distributed by MGM Distribution.

Way Of The Eagle
Rattlesnake


Way Of The Eagle, the brand new collaboration-based project from Melbourne writer, producer, musician and composer Jan Skubiszewski is set to release its debut EP.

As one half of Jackson Jackson (with The Cat Empire front man, Harry Angus), he has a slew of scoring, composing, writing and producing credits to his name in television, film (Two Hands, Bran Nue Day, Bootmen) and music (Mark Ronson, John Butler Trio, Plan B, Bliss N Eso). With such high standing in the entertainment industry, Jan has been able to call upon a high calibre of prominent Australian musicians to collaborate on his debut effort.

The Way Of The Eagle project combines Jan’s writing and instrumentation with the likes of Daniel Merriweather, Dan Sultan and Emily Lubitz of Tin Pan Orange featuring as vocalists and musicians on tracks. The lead track from Way Of The Eagle, also titled ‘Rattlesnake’ is a collaboration between Jan and ARIA Award winner Dan Sultan.
